OIPMA Urges Urgent Action to Protect Children in Conflict Zones at the 57th Human Rights Council

Geneva, 9 October 2024 – The International Organisation for the Least Developed Countries (OIPMA) delivered a critical statement today at the 57th Human Rights Council, calling for immediate action to protect children in conflict-affected regions, particularly Yemen.

In its statement, OIPMA highlighted the alarming recruitment of millions of children by extremist groups such as the Houthis and the Muslim Brotherhood. These children are being indoctrinated with violent extremism, hatred, and sectarianism, posing a significant threat to both regional and international security.

OIPMA emphasized the need for the United Nations to move beyond mere data collection on the plight of children in conflict zones. The organization urged the UN to establish a robust framework that empowers the Special Representative of the Secretary-General with the necessary tools to address violations against children effectively.

“Protecting children in conflict zones is not just a humanitarian obligation but a crucial step toward preventing the emergence of future generations of extremists and terrorists,” said [Insert Name], [Insert Title] of OIPMA. “We urge the international community to engage in sustained political and diplomatic efforts to safeguard the most vulnerable among us.”

OIPMA remains committed to advocating for the rights and protection of children in conflict zones and calls on all relevant stakeholders to prioritize this urgent issue.
